Electric Bikes – Scooters Becomes Costlier To Buyers As Fame 2 Subsidy On Two Wheelers Slashed

The Indian government has slashed the subsidies for electric Scooters (two-wheelers), Ministry of Heavy Industries has issued gazette notification on 21 may 2023 with revised FAME-II subsidy on E2W, so there will be reduction of subsidy amount from Rs 15,000 per kWh to Rs 10,000 per kWh.

Maximum subsidy under FAME 2 scheme has been capped at 15 per cent of the ex-factory pricing of the eligible electric two-wheelers, substantially down from the 40 per cent offered till now.

There will be a significant price hike for electric two-wheelers buyers who are planning to purchase electric bikes with subsidy benefit under the FAME (Faster Adoption of Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles in India) 2 scheme from 1st June 2023 onwards.

For example : An electric two-wheeler that previously received a 40,000 subsidy under the FAME 2 scheme and had an ex-showroom price of 100,000 will now only get a 15,000 subsidy. This implies that the purchaser of the specific electric two-wheeler will be required to pay an additional 25,000 out of pocket.
